Right now I have a 383 stroker motor that is rated at about 390 Hp. The cam is 230 duration, 490 int. 490 ext. The cam is rated at 1500-5500rpm's, would having a stock stall converter in it cause the motor to choke out when you drop it into drive.

I have a real similar set of specs in a 230cid Chevy straight 6 and had a problem with stalling when I shifted my Powerglide into gear using a stock converter. Got a 2000 stall speed converter and solved that problem. Get the lowest stall speed you can and still not have the stalling problem. This is a case where bigger isn not necessarily better.
