After getting my 49 chevy p/u core from a junkyard, he promised me a title, but now (a couple months later), he still can't find it. Supposedly the previous owner has the previous title as a salvage title or something, but nobody can find him. Now my question is, what should I do? I'm going to have a police friend of mine check the VIN and find out what shape the title is in and where it is. I could just get an S10 chassis and use the title from that, but if possible, I'd rather just stick with the original frame.
I feel like one of those kit car people who get completely done and find out how much trouble getting a title is. Thanks for any help. |

Check the back of some Hot Rod or Street Rodder mags. I got a clean title from a guy in Jersey for $150. I can look his name and number up if youn need it.

Broadway title won't touch anything in Iowa. And I'm pretty sure the only option I have of getting a 49 p/u title (besides finding the last owner), is a bonded title; which requires me to put one and a half the value of my truck in a bond for three years. Of course, I can always take all the parts off and tell the DMV that the value is 50 dollars (right now it'd be hard for them to argue).
What I was wondering about was alternative ways of getting a title (although I'm not terribly fond of the government, I'd prefer to stick to legal right now). |
