May of 2004. Hit a deer


March 2005. A guy coming towards me turns left into my truck stating he didn't see me. $2300 damage.


February 2006. I am stopped at a stop sign waiting to turn. Another car approaches from the left. (4-way stop) she starts slowing down to stop so I turn. She rolls thru, hits me, and claims she never even seen me. I suppose there is a couple grand damage to this as well as it got the bumper, grill, inner and outter fender. She did admit fault to the cop though over the phone. And I called the sherriff back to verify that she did, Since there were no injuries we just exchanged info. The thing is, hers and my insurance company is the same. I did get ahold of my agent this mornong and filed a report with her explaining what happened. So hopefully it is not coming out of ny expenses.


The good thing was that I was going to drive the wifes '02 Solara but changed my mind and took the truck instead. I'd rather it get bashed than the new car. This is the truck that I have been fighting all along with to get running right after having the engine and tranny rebuilt. .060 over 350 that was trouble from the very start. It was finally nicknamed "The truck from hell" as we had nothing go right with the engine build. I told my wifes nephew that if we ever do get it running right someone will probably bash me in the side. So to say, it is running right. And so to say, it got bashed in the side. Time for a makeover which I had plans for anyways. I was just waiting to get my income tax back so I could get my new grille, bumper, etc ordered. Looks like my plans got bumped up a little.

You'll have to thank the lady that made this all possible, once you get it done the way you wanted to, with her payout.

Kevin, Man!!.. luck hasn't been goin' your way lately, has it. The damage on the blue truck looks like it's confined to the LF fender. If it was my rig, I'd try and work up an apetite for a big venison steak by doing the bodywork myself. The insurance money you save doing it yourself could go in the wallet.. That's a GOOD thing

I got an estimate from the repair shop last night. HOLY BEJEEZUS!!!!! $2945.00 for repairs. I am going to do my own work but he told me that with an estimate that high along with the year of the truck that they will try and total it. So I will have to settle for less than the estimate which won't be bad if I do everything myself. Taking a few hundred less is still probably about a thousand more than I thought was there in damage anyhow.

I had a 89 like yours that I got from my nephew after he totaled it.
It was hit in the same place but other side, and harder, (left turn in front of astro van) the top A frame was crushed, rad support/grille, bumper and fender was ruined, engine and trans mounts where broken and had slid forward a few inches.
Not to toot my own horn, but I fixed it it all in two days and $100 in parts!

Getting a car that's been totaled insured is next to impossible round here.

I ran into a situation like that back in 85, with my 81 Toyota 2wd pickup. A kid ran a redlight and caught me in the driver's side of the frontend. The insurance company totaled the Yoda and gave me $4900. I bought the truck back for $1500 salvage and by the time I got it all back together and painted, I think I was in it just about $1200 in parts, and I bought everything new from Toyota except for the Crash Parts headlight/parklight assemblies. I drove that thing for another 100,000 miles, wore it almost out, and peddled it for $500.

Back then, I got out of it without a branded title and the extra money really came in handy!

does the truck pull or still drive straight? if it is still straight it will probably get away way cheaper. but being that it is the same insureance company, that complicates things. they will try to total you out, keep fighting and get the $ and tell them that you pay a premium for a reason. and then fix it.

As long as your insurace is valid you should get your money for it, thats why you pay them. Remember its still your truck and they cant force you to junk it.

Fight them for as much $$ as you can and fix it right (yourself)
