Agree, looks good in the pics.

As far as making power with the 305, there isn't much you can do to it. GM kept the 350 stroke and made the bore so small, a 350 head doesn't work well. In fact, the big intake valve on some 350 heads hits the block because the bore is too small. The stock heads are peanut ports and won't breath.

If you're not happy with the 305, your best bet is to pull it.
I had an '88 IROC 305 TPI, 5 speed and it was surprisingly good for acceleration but ran out of breath at 5k.

This car will be the wifes (it gets her off my case for my not finishing her 79 Camaro yet LOL) so to me If the 305 is in good condition I might play with it and see how much I can squeeze out of it I know their limitations, The thing is I haven't checked the numbers on the engine and in the back of my mind I'm thinking there might be a surprise LOL when I decode them! I may be going to pick it up Sunday if the lots plowed and I'll see it for myself and post pics when I get home! I was thinking of pulling the 302 out of my Vette when I paint it and put it in the Firebird and build a fresh engine for the Vette LOL ( I havn't told the wife yet) I'm also stripping the engine compartment clean (If the wife lets me LOL) of any thing unessential for anything but the engine! even the heater. But If its real nice She will probably do a few custom tricks to it and keep the 305 dressed up for a cruiser! Hell cruisers don't need power LOL they just need to be comfortable drive nice and be showy LOL I am going to lay out flames, scalops or lace and film it and put it on the paint threads!

We aren't overly excited like when we were young! That's a funny thing about our getting older its no big deal I miss the excitement we shared when we got a new project we were rip snorten adrenalin filled and young and would be right there to get the car the moment it arrived ! we wouldn't care if it was Armageddon!!! But today we just wait for the weather to get better LOL I guess we had so many new projects in the past that the thrill kind of wore off
My 302 engine:

With as much mix-and-match with body parts as that car has, it wouldn't be a big shock to find a 350 under the hood either...

That's exactly what I was thinking LOL I don't know whats been done to the car? I was really surprised when I got the pics and saw the body mods and paint!!

The way all this started was we were looking for a car for my daughter and found the ad for the car saying "82 Firebird runs great, great shape, many extra parts. $5000 " And during the negotiations my daughter was given a FIESTA! LOL So my wife and I said HELL We'll keep it for our selves! My son works in Colorado a contractor and comes home to Mich every couple of months and drove it back for us and told us how great it drove and looked! It was when the big ICE storm hit here and he put it in the storage unit in Colman Mich. Because we couldn't get it here about 40 miles away! and Ive been ill so we couldn't get it yet. we have so much snow about 2 1/2 feet still left here and the ice from the storm is still under it and its snowing every day It drove from Colorado with no problems so we know it runs well and the rest has all been a surprise!

Well I picked up the car yesterday morning (dead battery, 2 flat tires and critter paw prints all over the vehicle LOL and only one light working in the pole building (dark) Filled the tires gave it a charge and it started right up after setting for 5 months!! Drove home fine!

the wife washed it in the cold ! Still snow and ice on the ground We checked the car out better today, it has all new exhaust, a 305 cu. in. with a new Q jet, new battery, new water pump, new fuel pump , new alternator, new belts, new EGR, new radiator and all hoses, new brakes & rotors, plus many extra parts used and many new in boxes and its a true Trans AM! It was a red car I see the red in some of the factory over spray areas, it needs a head liner or re glued in the edge areas that popped out of the groove they set in under the T tops! The rest of the head liner is like new you can only see a problem on the edges that popped out!! The door panels needs the pockets re installed! and a little re alining of some body gaps! We are really happy with the deal we got on the car

First 2 pics are at the storage barn surrounded by boats LOL
