Adhesives used to be a simple thing. You went to the hardware store and got contact cement.
No longer, especially if you're in CA which I hope your not. Almost no adhesive spray or brush-on you can get from a store shelf will hold even the lightest materials if there is any sun shine on it, all will creep or drop off entirely. DAP brand is the worst, 3M is at-least so-so. That's not to say there isn't usable glue here, it's just not economical for normal stores to maintain the permits required to have it on premises.
So just make sure that (a) you buy in a state other than California, (b) you get yellow solvent-based stuff, NOT white water-base and (c) be able to fold the material over onto a hidden surface and then staple the edge there if at all possible.
That said, the stuff in the pic above is what I'd use, or what's called "trim adhesive" in spray cans. Know that uneven application may show through as bumps in your material so spray is best.
