Can anyone help me out by telling me where to locate any kind of VIN on a 1929 Model A coupe? I've heard it is on the frame under the body. How do you get to it if that's the case?

It should be stamped into the top of the frame rail on the driver's side forward of the firewall and also further back, covered with the body. Although I've never seen it there, I'm told that it's also stamped into the rear crossmember where the spring sits.

Vin numbers were not used in those days. The numbers stamped in the frame were frame numbers. The body numbers, which were used on bills of sale and later, early titles were embossed on an identi-plate which was rivited to the fire wall on the early Fords into the 50s. You can order these plates from Dennis Carpenter, but I would get a registration number from DMV and have that number embossed on the plate. I have posted in the past what I had to go through to get a permanent title to my PU and I had a bill of sale and title for it. My assigned number is the frame number so I could claim a lot of 36 Ford Pick Ups.

Regardless of what anyone says, our 28 frame had no numbers. According to Texas DMV, ford frame numbers started in 32. my 2 cents worth.
