gm 10 bolt to ford 9 inch

had 4.10 gears in my camaro and had run a best 12.3 was wondering what a set of 4.56 or 4.88 would do for me. I am currently runnin 29 inch slicksand a 700R4 with a 2400 stal converter. the car is about 4000lbs....t-roof car...as of now I go throught the traps at around 6000 rpm in drive....mabey i should stay with 4.10,s......but was hopefull to hit the 12.00 or 11.99 mark any help would be nice

What are your shift points? If you're hitting the trap @ 6000, it sounds like your gearing is pretty good. How's your 60 ft, and are you getting a good launch? I would look more into traction and more power rather than gearing. What's your current set up, motor/tranny. There's little things you can do to shave some tenths off. Once you hit 11.99, you need a roll bar/cage. Are you ready for that?

As for the little things you can do:
Unbolt the front sway bar (if your car has one).
Take off unnessasary pulleys (alt,a/c,p.steering)
Cover up your grille for better aero dynamics
Gut the interior

Those are all just little things that may already be done to your ride, but if not, they could get you pretty close...

thanks gt2betubbed....was shifting at 5500 ....traction is a problem i,m runnin a 427 bb with a 700r4 24oo stall...the car dynoed at 500/500 on the stand...so far i havent been useing overdrive at the end of the track but it,s not out of the question...if a set of 456 or 488 would bump me a bit faster i would go for it

oh i for got ...the best 60 foot was 1.67

1.67 is a pretty good 60' in my book, you can't be having that much of a traction issue. What is your trap speed on those 12.3 time slips. If your car was dynoed what RPM was your peak torque at? Is your car running out of steam @ 6k rpm's when you cross the line. If your peak torque is much lower than 6k rpm's then you might have too much gear with the 4.10's and might do better with a 3.90 or even a 3.73? In my book you aren't giving enough information to know what gear ratio is best for you. If your car is making power up to 6,600 or so then a 4.30 or 4.56 might do, but don't run out of motor before you cross the finish line.
