GM 3 spd auto

Im thinking of doing a minor tune-up & upgrade to my 3 spd auto
The engine it is bolted to is a 305. If I add a B&M shift kit a cleanser and Royal Purp fluid will that be competetive with a TH350 ? ? ?
Thanx 4 the help.

3 speed auto

Da? Give us some help here,I am not to much on auto's. What is it in. with a 305,or 7,or 2. Take a stab , 350 TH. What do you want. rebuild with a full clutchpack and up graded pump. If your engine is a little short something has got to give. Maybe the torque converter. what's your rear axle ratio, and tire size.. Anything always feels better if you like the feel of the shifter, like a Hurst in a Vw. Try this, Carefully take out your transmission, keep fluid in it ,wrap it up, and store it. Find a 2 speed powerglide and a chevy vega torque conveter. You will find it interesting and knowing nothing else I have no idea how long it will last. I might have them, but probably not. They should be available and cheap in some backwater scrap yard.the theory here is if it only has to shift gears once, It will get down the track faster, as will an old 350th with a full clutch pack, assuming 19 or what ever other things. Put a shifter in its going to feel better or the other really works too. give us some info.mark PS there are guys here that really know what they are doing. Plan the project. What do you have-where do you want to go.Me I miss the 66 GTO shifter- not that it was the best one.

I think you mean "compatible" with a TH-350, or do you have the smaller 200 trans? Anyway, a shift kit and filter/fluid change while you're at it will help. I doubt the Royal Purple will give you a noticeable improvement, but it will help with heat and wear. I've used "Hi-Tach" or "Morey's Oil Stabilizer" (same product, different distributors) in an auto trans and it WILL improve shifting. It thickens the oil slightly (don't use more than 10% -- most auto trannys hold more than 10 quarts, so 1 quart is about right), but has better lubricating qualities. The internal pressure will increase about 10-20 psi, which is just enough to notice on a good trans. Not quite as good as a shift kit, but almost "shift kit in a bottle". I ran this for years in an old air cooled trans (no lines going to radiator, an air cooled torque converter) since there were no shift kits available, and never had a problem.
