gm 350 crate motor identification.. HELP !!

I got this gm goodwrench 350 crate motor off my "old timer" friend.. he says that he got it over 10 years ago and never got to putting it in any of his street rods and never removed it from its original crate !!! all he keeps saying is 290 hp, 290 hp... can anyone tell me how i can find out if it truely puts out 290 horses ??? head # 3998993- block #10066036 (raised)- block #MD23353 (stamped)... my research tells me 350 target motor made in Mexico, but can't come up with any horse power numbers.. any info would be appreciated

The Targetmaster motors were basically the same thing as the current Goodwrench 260hp motors, smog pistons, smog heads, stock camshaft. The 290hp Goodwrench motors were not introduced until a couple of years ago, and differ only in the camshaft.
