GM 8.5", 7.5" 10 bolt ?? and 700R4 ??

I have an 87 Pontiac Grand Prix im building up with a mild (300hp) 350. I need lower rear gears. Should I look for a Monte SS rear to bolt in, or just rebuild my 7.5" rear? This will be used as a daily driver with a few runs a year on the strip for fun.

I have a GM 8.5" 10 bolt from a 86 Caprice im parting out. I was going to use it, but it wont bolt in. It is a 3.08 open diff. How much should I sell it for? Its in good condition. Also, what would a 700 R4 be worth? It has a large leak somewhere in the front, but still drives the car fine. I assume any new owner of it will want to rebuild it. Thanks for any info.

The weakest part of the 7.5 rearend is the 26 spline axles. If you can find the latter 28 spline axles for your rearend, add a good posi unit and gears----it should last quite a while behind 300h.p. with an auto! The 8.5 rear really isn't worth much maybe $100 if you can find someone that can use it! Some of the early 700r4's had a return line in the pump right behind the front seal that clogged up sometimes allowing fluid to push past the seal like the seal was bad! This is an easy fix but you would need to pull the pump and drill the return out carefully!

After reading about how much 12 bolts cost, and 9" fords, I thought the 8.5" I had would be worth more. I guess its all in what it will fit. Anyway, every little bit of cash flow will help. Ok, I will seek out a 28 spline 7.5" and see what comes about.

I'm one of those guys hotrodding Caprices, I paid 75$ for and 8.5 with a posi out of a 88 police car at a junkyard, and the guy took it out for me. It was complete drum to drum. Some of the other junk yard owners wanted $150 up to $300 for a 8.5in 10 bolt with a posi.
