GM Crate Engine ZZ 454

I am looking at buying a ZZ 454 engine. My question is will it fit into a 1979 Z28 Camaro with the oil pan that comes with the engine?

Thanks,
Night Rider

Will not clear. There are no production pans that will. Specialty pan is required.

The ZZ454/440 in intended for use in 1978 and earlier preemissionstreet vehicles and any year off-road vehicles. Equipped oil pan may not clear Chevelle and Camaro applications.

For a fact won't clear those or "G" bodies. I get customers that buy the Ebay pans. THEY DON"T FIT!!

they come with a truck pan.. you'll need a moroso pan made for a new style bbc .. when I had my 454ho and bought the pan it was like 150.oo+ pick up and dip stick.. so figure 2 bills+

my pan was for that engine in an "a" body not sure if the same pan will fit a f body.. but I'd be shocked if moroso didn't offer one to fit...

Does anyone know the part number for the correct oil pan?

Moroso makes too many oil pans to fit a BBCto list. Check out this link to Moroso website. Moroso : Category Display. I use 20403 oil pan on my 1967 Camaro. Check out Summit Racing for their street/strip oil pans. Moroso Street/Strip Oil Pans 20401 - SummitRacing.com. Here is a list of oil pump pickup to fit all the different Moroso oil pans. Don't stop looking at costs for a pan for it only. The headers are also very expensive. And you have to beef up the suspension and driveline as well.

I blew up my 454 at the end of last season, so I have Headers and the suspension to take the beating.

Is there a difference between a one piece and a two piece crank seal oil pan?

Does anyone know if GM sells one?

Chevrolet Performance 12495360 - Chevrolet Performance 4-Quart Oil Pan Kits

Designed to fit Gen V and VI engines only. It will not fit 1990 and earlier Mark IV engines.

OK, I got the engine. Thinking on upgrading a few things. PRW Roller rockers, S.S. 0245402. Anyone have any luck with these? Also looking at a double roller timing chain, any ideas?
Would like to upgrage the intake????

Because of warranty issues i would not change anything until the motor is in and running correctly. Roller rockers can be installed in an afternoon.

Its an expensive build and will help alot to keep it stock until you can get it dailed in.

It should come with a pretty good chain already right?
