GM HEI MSD 6AL- What coil do you run?

I have a GM HEI with an MSD 6AL but I have a stock ignition coil. I know they make the blaster external or the coil in cap design too (which is what I currently have in there) so what do you recommend?

HEI system is a good system, you do not loose any current through a non existing coil wire! I would recommend changing the coil however. Stock coils will not hold the primary voltage put out by an msd system, they will over heat and fail.

Best of luck

Get the kit from MSD to move the coil out of the cap.

I hate to bring up an old topic, but I have a 6AL, Timing Controller, Blaster 2 Coil and an HEI Distributor with a Dustcap conversion on my 70 T/A....

It works fine, but I'm about to start the restoration and I'd like the engine bay to look as clean as possible...

I'll be mounting the ignition and timing controller boxes in the trunk, but now I'm thinking about getting an MSD HEI coil (in-cap)....

Is there any difference in performance compared to the external Blaster 2 coil I have now?

I would think the HEI coil would be better do to less current travel...

Rick
