Question Gm Irs ???

Does anybody know what other model GM vehicles had Independent Rear Suspension, except for the Jags and Corvettes? Did the Pontiac Tempest have IRS?

Thanks,
Classic

Independant rearends.

Jaguar Company is now owned by Ford Motor Company ,GM was and possibly still does sell them transmissions. As far as the suspension goes the 1986 to 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE came with All wheel Drive and it had a nice aluminum Centre section .I think it was by Dana Corp. They are few of these around but they did look like nice street rod material.

What are you going to do with it? The '80's to '90's T-Bird/Cougar line has a nice IRS that is being used under street rods...

Back in the early 60's (64 for sure) 4 cyl. Tempests had a rear transaxle with IFS. It wouldn't work for a street rod though. Way too light duty. I managed to break the case on one with the stock 4 banger. Had a normal pressure plate and clutch setup hooked to a flexible (twistable) enclosed drive shaft. Not exactly street rod material by any stretch of the imagination.

If i remember correctly ( enjenjo knows) the Jags in the 1960 & 70's were Dana parts. At least some of the center section Dana parts/ gears fit

Hey Willys! Would you mind posting a wheel-flange-to-wheel-flange width dimension? I'm considering one of these for my '47 Ford Coupe...

TIA!
