I have never specifically heard of any GM axle called the "metric rearend", but the only one that immediatly comes to mind is the Borg Warner 9-bolt with a 7.75 inch ring gear, commonly referred to as the "Austrailian axle", and it was only found in some F-body cars for only a few years.

speedway has a ******* 9',axles,everything,but w/ gm metric bracketry.$800. just the housing w/axle tubes,$459-499. my whole front susp is direct replacement for 78-88 g-body,but all hardware(nuts, bolts)were metric.so i just wanted to know if my rear-end was metric also.

Sounds kind of like you have the same thing I have, my Malibu is the last year they called the A-body a rear wheel drive, and the 82 midsize cars were given the G-body designation.

I have the last year of standard measurement wheel studs and many other things with mine being an 81, but there were many screws and bolts here and there ther were changed over to metric stuff on mine.

They changed more and more as the years went on, but you should still have standard measurement stuff even if it is bolted in with metric hardware.
