GM NWC T5 rebuild Q

I have my T5 torn apart and now just starting assembly, I am now at the 3-4 gears slider and the keys dont wanna cooperate, the keys in the 1-2 slider is working great sliding back and forth between the gears but when I install the front shaft connecting the 4th gear to the 3-4 slider and pull it into 4th gear its almost like it slides a little to far and the keys ever so slightly kick out by the 3rd gear brass synchro, would this be because I dont have it installed and this is allowing the 3-4 slider to over extend on the shift into 4th? I am just trying to make sure everything is perfect before I get it all the way back together.
Has anyone ever had this problem or ran into this with one of these trannys?
Im sure its something small but thought I would ask here before I pull it back apart for a 3rd time
ps I bought the master rebuild kit and am using new parts
