GM power door lock mechanisms

Replacing doors in a G-Body and I seem to have run into two different mechanism styles. The late-build has a third pawl and the rod pops directly into the solenoid-motor grommet. I'm not sure how the other disassembled door connects it's rod to the solenoid?

Nobody?
The factory docs have draw a third style?
Maybe making my own rod similar to the drawing is the way to go, vs the mystery missing piece.

A few more coffees and it became clear. The donor car had been (re?)assembled wrong. Factory docs match the older style.
