gm rear axle ratio/rpo codes

I have a1985 IROC-Z28 with rear axle ratio of 3.42. My rpo code is GU6. A rpo G92 performance axle ratio is also a 3.42 but concidered as being only 250 cars produced. Does anyone know if there really is a difference?

I don't know about the G92 code, but someone here might have a good answer for you. Transmissions and Drivetrain - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

"G92 : AXLE REAR RATIO, PERFORMANCE" from RPO Codes.com- GM option codes,GM rpo codes,General Motors options

It doesn’t give the ratio. However GU6 is the code for 3.42 and that would normally be paired with G80 if it had a Gov Lock but the F bodies got Ford Trac locks, so possibly the G92 was an odd code for 3.42 trac lock

Thanks for the info. I never knew they used Ford carriers. With that said I just bought another one like came out of my car from OEM Surplus. I don't know a gov lok from a trac lok.

The Trac Lock was used in the 2nd gen F body. The 3rd gen got the Auburn or the Governor Lock. The Auburn was used most, but some got the Gov Lock. No 3rd gen F bodies got the Trac Lock. The Trac Lock was also used in the Ford 8.8 and 7.5, but it wasn't a Ford only part. GM used it in the corporate 8.5 and in the '68 to '70 Olds O rear end before Ford ever used it in anything.
