GM Roller cam/lifters in early style block ?
I'm lookin into retro fittin a LT-4 roller cam and lifters into a earlier style 350 block.
I know the early block is not cast for the thrust plate that go's behind the cam sprocket, but i can use a thrust butten up front instead. The newer block has the tops of the lifter bores milled flat, but i was thinkin i could do the same on the early block with a angle grinder and a fresh grinding disk. or have a machine shop mill it. I still have to come up with a way to secure the lifter cross-bar hold down stamped tin in the lifter valley. Anybody have success, knowledge or experience with this retro-fit? |

won't work, lifter bores are .220" taller in the new blocks. Only way to do it is put lifter bore bushings in the block and let them protrude on the top to make up for extra length. To expensive a fix.

alright.... I bought an instruction manual on ebay on how to do this.. and if you come across it, don't buy it! The instructions said to buy roller lifters from a 2.2 four cyl I think, and then you had to slightly clearance the block and drill and tap 3 holes for the spider to hold the lifters down.. Now, all of this was fine, but once assembled the rockers were IMPOSSIBLE to adjust.. I mean, I would adjust one, and then bump the motor over, maybe a few full turns, and it would be completely out of adjustment! It was rediculous... so I bought the tie bar lifters instead and it works great...

Hey snod
what push rods were you using? was it a stock length chevy piece It almost sounds to me as though the lifters were bleeding down as you were baring the motor over and making your adjustments. I,m not sure but i think what you were experiencing my have been normal. I was talking to someone else and they mentioned those 2.2 4 cyl. lifters that you were talking about, if you could remember a part # i could do more investigation. Thanks |

I have 7.5 inch trick flow pushrods. I am not sure of the part number, but I will see if I can find one.
