GM Saginaw Delphi 600 steering box

The GM Saginaw Delphi 600 steering box is hot in the mags right now. However, they are trying to push the new ones for big bucks. In the articles I have read, they carefully do not mention in which cars the 600 is OEM. Anyone know for sure?

thnx, jack vines

I don't know what is a Delphi 600 and what isn't. It seems to me the difference is that the newer Delphi boxes have a 3-bolt input cap and a closed forward end while the older Saginaw boxes have a threaded in input and a snap-ring retained forward end. The only "car" that I know of with the 3-bolt input cap are the late 90's Crown Vics. The rest are out of newer Ford, Dodge, and GM trucks. Just about everything else these days uses rack & pinion.

The magazine articles, ex. PHR November 08, pages 52-55, tease us with saying the Delphi 600 is used in most current trucks, but don't give any year-from-to. The purpose of their article, of course, is to sell new units from their advertisers. The wrecking yard Hollander interchange needs some real firm data to find the trucks using the 600.

What do you want to put it in? Do you want a short or long sector (output) shaft? Are you trying to match a specific sector shaft spline or mounting flange pattern?

Try poking around on either www.napaonline.com or www.cardone.com to see if you can find something that looks right. NAPA has some good info on their web site.
