The s terminal is where the heavy wire that comes from the ignition switch goes that activates the starter. The other is where a second wire to feed the ignition system during starting would go. Not all cars have it and if you have an aftermarket ignition system it is most likely not used.
Generally the s terminal wire is pink or purple.
If you search on here I am sure you can come up with a picture and additional info if you need it.

The one marked S is the one you want to hook your starter switch to (or the starter circuit of your ignition switch). According to the attached diagram, the other one is marked R although I thought I remembered it as I. This is for a points type ignition. Most, if not all, electronic ignitions do not require it.
I also included a wiring diagram on how to wire in a Ford solenoid. A GM starter solenoid draws about 30 amps, which is real hard on a starter switch. This is one of the reasons so many older GM's won't start or will start if you wiggle the key. The metal strap is Ford part no. C8VY-11072-A. (Mine is a very old one, Ford may have discontinued it or changed the number. It is a place to start anyway)

Chevy starter problems

I read the below, my son and I have been having a very difficult time with his starter. I am more accustomed to spending time under the hood of earlier models. The question is- on his 1988 chevy truck it has three wires going to his starter, I know the ignition wire goes to S terminal, he has a third wire, of course this truck doesn't have a point type ignition. Where does the smaller wire go and what is it used for? I am also hoping that this schematic will work for him as well because of his hot start problem. Any help would be appreciated!
Mike
