gmc air bags

I've got a 2001 gmc 3500. The check engine light has been coming on but doesn't seem to change how the truck runs. Will sometimes go out after a while but come back on a few days later. Now the air bag light stays on. For you gm guys is there a sensor that goes bad on these older gmc's on air bag system?

I've had the same symptoms in a non-GM vehicle, and it turned out to be a slightly flat battery. Apparently the electronics (at least in my car) were so sensitive to minor fluctuations in voltage that a little water added to the battery was all it took to fix the problem.

If that isn't it, then I'm thinking some sort of ground fault. But I'll defer to the GM experts on that one!

Best of luck.

Air bag light is most likely the clock spring in the steering wheel or on of the switches in a seat belt. If you can find someone witM factory scanner it will tell you where the issue is.

When the check engine light comes on have it scanned. Comming on and off is usually Evap or catalyst.
