Go karts

Anyone have any experience with go karts?
me and a few other friends are planning on building one this summer...sorta.....
we've pretty much decided were gonna buy a rolling chassis cause it probably wont cost much more than what it would cost us to build it, plus all the 'guess work' is already done, no need to learn to weld and stuff....
We're still trying to find an engine to use....any suggestions for this? We're hoping to, with the right gearing, be able to get it to go around 50 or so MPH....

Get either an old chainsaw motor (cheap) or a motorcycle motor (little bit more $). 50 shouldn't be a problem. Staying alive. . . .will be.

I know lot's about go karts.

You will want to use a Torque-A-Verter to get 50 mph. that is made by Comet.

This subject has come up MANY times, have you tried the search link at the top of every page (left hand side), this subject seems to be quite popular and a lot of information is there but does not need repeating.

The search for "Kart" came up with 34 results.

We used to get 50+ on our karts with a 5 hp Briggs, running on methanol, on a 1/8 mile dirt track. Not hard to do at all. The motors only cost me about $800 each.

Don't they get about 20 hp out of those engines now?
Car Craft did a story on custom B/S blocks, but I can't remember
what the hp was.

I'm a Tecumseh man myself.

I bought a Go Kart at garage sale. you will be suprised what you can find. The i bought was run hard and put away wet to many times. I found a Honda 90 three wheeler that had T boned a pickup truck. Everything forward of the gas tank was bet. Motor ran good. Pulled the Honda engine and used the mounting points to make a template for the engine to fit the go cart. I even used the throttle system and kill s/w. Took the shifting lever and rotate it up and hooked it to a hand shift on the frame. Even the chain was used also used the rear three wheller tires on the Go Cart. belive that was one fun Go Cart. I lived in am rual area at that time, A lot of trails deep ditches. I bad boy could go almost any where. I think it spent more time in the rough than any where else. By the way you want to use a small tire in the front. WTS

Find a snowmobile engine with the clutches/jackshaft and gearcase. 85 mph will be EASY ! It will also have brakes on the jackshaft.
