Its a never ending game....

I would go with a comp cam extream energy like a 268 and a 2300-2500 stall.

With that cam, you will not need different valve springs and it will still idle great and give you enough vacume for brakes.

The stall helps with off the line as it lets the vehicle leave in the camshafts powerband, compared to before it. But with a stall, you will need a tranny cooler( they are cheap at the junk yard)

Typically, a few degrees shorter than what you'd use in a similar 350...

If you want a specific answer then give specific details about the drivetrain, powerband, intake, exhaust, chasis weight, use...

Does that even answer half of what I asked? Go to any cam manufacturor's web site and check out the list of what they want to give you a good recommendation. Without those kinds of specific details you'll only get vague shots in the dark based on what people would put in there own setup for their own use... who knows if that will match with whatever you want to do

"Specific details"? Not even a good start! I think I speak for most of us here when I say "we're not friggin' psychic", you have to give us something to work with. What trans, gears, tire size and which "stock" 305? There are 305's and then there are 305's, they weren't all created equal and S-10's didn't come from the factory with 305's. What year 305, what Edelbrock carb, was it a 2 or 4 Bbl. carb originally or was it EFI and if EFI TBI or TPI converted to a carb?

I installed one of these Crane Cams in my Camaroīs original 305, with 1.6:1 roller rockers gives great torque.
When I went to a 350 the cam came as well.
Itīs excellent off the line but runs out off puff at 4400rpms.
