good deal

today at work a guy started talking to me about my car and offered me his engine. It has a magnum 280 cam, ported and poliched camel humps w/ 2.02 stainless valves, 1.6 aluminum rockers, victor jr intake, and a 750 holley dp. It was still in the car and hasnt been run in a long time but still fired up right away. he said he would take 2000 complete with everything but the msd box and distributor. does this sound pretty good?

$2000.00 sounds a little pricey, You could build your engine using better cyl heads and a good lower end for about the same amount of money, and then you know what you have, how its been run, and how old everything is.

I agree with Steve. You never know what/how things were done....unless you do them yourself.

I'd pass as well. Too many unknowns IMO.

Don't give up yet!

Ask him if he'd be willing to let you run a compression test. Verify that the oil pressure is adequate and steady when it's warmed up. When you get the engine out, pull the oil pan off to verify that you're getting what he says is in there.

If he agrees to let you check the engines vitals and see the internals for yourself it might not be a bad deal.
