Good intake for a 305

Hey guys,

The stock intake manifold on my 305 powered 84 Trans Am is pitted out really bad at one of the corners where it bolts down and I have to replace it because I can't get a proper seal anymore. Would it benefit me better to get an aftermarket intake manifold or should I go with a stock replacement from GM? If I go aftermarket, which would help me the most? Keep in mind I have the stock heads and stock exhaust manifold on the car. I do plan on replacing the motor early next year with a 383 for which I already have the block and a set of vortec heads...can I buy a vortec intake and use the Vortec heads (Originally off a 350) on this 305? Thanks!

I don't know if the intake valve on the Vortec head will clear the 305's bore.

If I were you, I'd find a good stock intake and use it. You could possibly use a Performer, but on a stock 305 I think you'd soften your throttle response, and only gain power in the very high rpm range (if at all), while losing some in the low- to mid-range. Save your money for the 383.

I wouldn't buy a new manifold or anything if your going to build a whole new motor later.

Maybe check the Junkyard or ebay or something, either for a stock intake or a used performed (Ebay...) since I have seen performers go cheap, but I'd say a stock intake would go cheaper...but not N.O.S....just used. I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of putting new heads on the engine, then buying a new intake, putting it all together, etc.

Check Ebay...That sounds like the smarter thing to do. Can't believe I didn't think of that myself. Thanks guys. I'll see what I can find.
