883 4spd is what they used right from Chrysler. that is probably the cheapest, being a 5spd that will hold behind a 383 will cost a few grand or so... assuming this is a BB Mopar being you did not say stroker

Gonna need to get a B/RB bellhousing (not all Chrysler is the same)

For a good low cost 4spd---with overdrive The A-833.
There are a couple of different versions of this

60s-70s muscle Chrysler -- no overdrive
80s Dodge pickups -- overdrive -- not sure of bell housing availability, as these trannys have a different front bearing retainer.

mid 80s GM pickups---overdrive---same trans as the dodge pickups, BUT are GM specific and will not bolt to a Chrysler bell

Very doubtful you will find any m-20/21/22 in a Junkyard.

Not very likely you will find the "B" & "E" body mopar A833 either.

Already gone.

I don't work on them at all----I have the OD A-833 in my 82 Dodge
and have been halfheartedly looking for GM A-833 to put into
my kid's & my project 64 Chev 1/2 ton.

I have Tremec TKO trannys in both my 59 & 66 ElCaminos

Despite the fact that I too also despise automatic trannys----that 727
is a good sturdy, reliable trans----near bullet proof

the auto is just not what i want in this car if i was going to the track i would leave make it work but to me an auto doesn't belong in a rat rod / retro rod
