Good name for a custom / rust repair shop?
Does anyone out there have any good ideas for a new name for a custom / muscle car / rust repair shop? We are moving into a new shop in Nov, and thinking of a name change also. This means a new sign, website, and cards.
thanks! |

I lived for years with a name I thought was clever "Auto World body repair". After a few years I realized how wrong I was with the "clever" name. I had to list it twice in the phone book under World autobody and Auto world body repair for one thing, no one could remember it.
I learned that if I were to do it again, especially a personal little shop like I had it would be "Brian's body shop" or something like that. Also, don't do the fancy artsy font and cluttered up sign telling people a bunch of crap they don't need to be told like "Guaranteed work" and crap like that. Make it clear and to the point, BRIAN'S BODY SHOP, AUTO BODY REPAIR. Again, I learned this from an old ad man. People don't give a crap about artsy, they want INFORMATION. "What do you do?" is the main thing that sign needs to tell people. My boss is looking at making a new sign where I work and she had some example with multi colors and fancy font, you couldn't read the damn thing! I asked her, why don't the street signs put up by the state have fancy font and colors? BECAUSE THEY WANT THEM TO BE READ! Don't get caught up in what the big boys do. People like TARGET and LOWES and all the others have millions of dollars spent marketing "teaching" people what there sign says. Target for instance has no name on their building! It blows me away, all the have is that red circle logo. You don't have the luxury of the marketing money to teach people what an artsy sign means. You want it SIMPLE and to the point. I have read a lot on marketing, it is kind of a hobby of mine, I love the art and science of marketing. If you study the subject at all you will find very quickly that what I am saying is correct. It is one of the biggest mistakes people make, they want to make their company "personal" and showing their skills so much that they make names and signs too complicated for the UNKNOWING to connect. You want it as simple as possible for someone who knows nothing about YOU to connect for YOU to then tell them what they need to know about yourself. Brian |
