BUGGY: I saw a guy ripping the elastic out of his underwear to use as a return spring on his throttle linkage. I often wonder how he explained that to Honey when he got home? Maybe he never made it? He will probably be at the next swap meet selling his old underwear for springs. Love it!! Dave E Shank

not as good as the underpants return spring, but you did say hose clamp.

I used a length of bungee cord as a v belt once, worked pretty good! I still keep it in my car for emergency's

Every car I've owned has a coat hanger behind the license plate in case I lock my keys in or need to hang a muffler. I've needed it a couple of times.

I rigged up a drain plug on my Holly carb when I was broke and in the Army. I couldn't afford a new carb and gave up on the holly. It kept flooding the front bowl no matter what I did. Everyonce in a while the carb would flood out and the car would die out. I had a baby food jar and would put it under the plug and drain out the bowl. Worked good untiol I could afford a new carb.
Still not as good as the underwear, but it's a good trick. Stupid, but effective.

I braided my leather jacket and vest straps together(the ones that hold the sides together) and used it for a Alt. belt, worked great, I was suprised.

I used coathangers to hold the rear frame together on a winter rat.Best part was when the bumper fell off in a 55mph.Same car had no floor, and I mean nothing just tranny tunnel and t brace.I used shingles and tar to cover one of the holes.Oh yea forgot it did have aluminum pop riveted over the cataletic converter(after the fire).

-wooden bumper on my '70 stang (a 4"x4")
*note* I later found out this was illegal, and fixed it right. not recommended!

-duct tape repair on the exhaust on my '79 Lesabre (worked fine 'til it melted)

-plastic floor mats and duct tape (again) to patch hole in driver's side footwell of '65 Caprice where leaves and snow were coming in. Not very effective against Wisconsin wind on your feet at twenty below. eventually had to remove leaves dating back to Johnson administration and manually close all vents *then* re-do the duct tape.
