I have been looking for a good portable tool kit something with
~Metric /SAE
~Sockets
~~~ 1/4
~~~ 3/8
~~~ 1/2
~Wenches
~Screwdrivers
~and maybe pliers that come in a case .

Something one could take into a U pull it & be able to dismantle 80 to 90% of stuff.
A tool kit to keep in the truck that has its own case so stuff is not lost all the time.

Any one got or seen anything like this.

It would be nice if it was good stuff not disposable Jap crap .
I don't need a level & cup- hook hangers to work on my truck wonder what these people are thinking when they put some of these things together?

1,001 pieces & 800 of them pieces are junk
{I really like when they count Solder less terminals & fuses as part of the kit}

I bought a HUSKY brand kit had everything in it in the way of sockets metric-standard, 1/4 3/8 1/2 then in the lid was a compartment you could put in other tools of your choise pliers/cresent wrench /open ends ect I use it when we go on trips just throw it in vecichle and go bought it at home depot about $70.00 life time warranty hope this helps mike

Hey rob, if i remember correctly sears sells some sets just like that that come in nice plastic cases, I know some guys that carry them to the boneyard for that purpose.

I have a nice stanley set, has polished chrome valadium wrenches. 100 peice I think. has 1/2" 3/8" and 1/4" ratchets and sockets, as well as wrenches. and allen keys. comes in a nice plastic case, w/ a rotating lock. folds out like a blanket

I have craftsman set in a plastic briefcase. have all my screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchets, extensions, etc etc. and it has some storage room in one side so I can throw in extra tools, little parts, etc. Best buy I've made in years.

One of the Guys @ my Friends repair shop bought a "Husky" set but I can't even find one 1/2 the size that he bought like 350 pieces for $200

Something I can leave in my truck for repairs & Bone yard hopping {A common occurance with me}

I really hate taking my good tools & not come back home with one of more,the kind of thing I loose sleep over .

If y'all happen across a nice set gimme a shout please

Crescent has a nice set, I've got one, I use it for the wecking yard visits. Not too expensive, probably made in China, it works well for a spare box in the trunk. http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/S...htm?E+coastest

I hate tool sets...With all of those wrenches and sockets with the same logo it just seems so...regimented and structured..

The guy that I rent space to has one of those husky sets...it seems so ....shallow. I pick up one of the tools and they just lay there in my hand, saying nothing...their little eyes are blank, they have no ability to channel the feeling of the fastener up into my conciousness and the image of the project dissappears ...leaving me with a cold dark emptyness that makes me want to .....EAT!


Yes, eating will fix me up.



I been buying tools at swap meets and garge sales for so long that I now have partial sets of tools from almoat every manufacturer known to mankind..So when I go to the junky, I get out my grandfathers old craftsman toolbox that he bought in '63, pitch a bunch of mismatched wrenches and screwdrivers and whatever other tools that call me from their drawers...."TAKE ME!!!Take me, oh puhleeze, mikey pick me...I'm clean too


Then when I get to my job, they are all happy to have been rubbing up against each other in a big toolbox tool orgy, (I have some really good HOT box wrench on box wrench action videos, PM me), and are all ready to have some nut busting FUN!!

Pfft. tool sets.

Yea me too a lot of tools found in the cars I was wreckin'

Found 2 BIG sets of Channel locks in the road a few weeks ago



I cant stand the guy's who I had to work with that looked like Donkey Kong scooping everything they own around & around & around like they are making scrambled eggs in their tool box .



Blood dripping everywhere hands & face looks like a scabby Crack hound because they use a crescent wrench for every thing ,hammer, nut driver, beer bottle opener 1/2" Breaker Bar .

Which is fine but don't drip your blood on me.

I got more important things to do EVEN IF its nuthing than looking for that F*^%$&king 5.5mm socket cause of Ford & their better Ideas

{remember I have CRUSHED more cars than I have fixed }

You could always do what I did - assemble your own road/junkyard kit:

- Set of double open-end wrenches (1/4" - 1" and metric equivalent)
- 3/8" ratchet (Husky flexible-type)
- 3/8" breaker bar
- 10" 3/8" extension with built-in swivel
- Small kit of sockets (Craftsman. Has 1/4" and 3/8" up to 3/4" and metric equiv. in 6 and 12-point)
- set of socket adapters
- One each standard and phillips screwdrivers (long-style)
- Screwdriver kit with replaceable tips (Companion and Workforce both have a nice 40-piece set that comes in a plastic box)
- Ratchet attachment for 1/4" screwdriver bits
- Nutdrivers, 5 ea of standard and metric
- Allen wrench set (will be replacing this with the "swiss-army knife" folding style eventually)
- Folding set of torx wrenches (T10 - T50)
- Allen and Torx wrench sets that fits on a 3/8" ratchet
- Cold chisel / long punch
- 3 lb ball-peen hammer
- 8" Linesman pliers
- 6" wire cutters
- 10" Channel-locks
- Hack-saw blade holder and some 32-TPI blades
- 10" pry-bar
- Folding utility knife
- Canvas sack with handles (for any loot I find)

. . . I think that's everything . . .

That right there is my standard load-out for whenever I go to the junkyard. Everything fits neatly into an old canvas backpack of mine - wrenches on the bottom, socket set in the middle of my back, long stuff off to the side, small stuff in the smaller pocket in front. This usually covers anything I run into that I might find interesting - if not, I'll be back with the necessary equipment (Fer instance, lately I've had a 0-1" and a 1-2" micrometer, with a 6" dial caliper thrown in as well). Once I get some others things finalized (I want to make a better backpack first), I'll also be including a 1/2" breaker bar, set of drill bits and a breast drill (ratcheting Yankee #1555).

Oh yea, a bottle or three of Gatorade as well. Planning on making a bottle holder that I'll be able to strap to my leg for a totally hands-free experience .

Found this @ Harbor Freight was just shopping around but it was the last one on the shelf So I sucked it up
