Very Pricey.. But to the Camaro collectors it's a one of a kind with documented history.. A very good history at that. The Rare car's chevy/mopar and ford will usually bring more money than the funny cars and dragsters. But I didnt think it would have that big of a price on it.
Very true Poncho... I'm very familiar with the car and tried to keep track of the car over the years. That car has some cool history to it. I would've loved to take the motor apart back when Jenkins was involved to see what he had up his sleeve.
There seems to still be plenty of collectors with very deep pockets and that's who it's priced for. Someone will end up with a 1 of a kind piece of racing history. The low production number, hemi mopars were bringing over a million a few years back. This may be a "bargain" compared to them...
From what I remember of Jerry's racing it, it doesn't have the original block anymore but then I wouldn't expect it to since it was turned to 10k consistently on the track.
The 5 miles may be from the restoration. Even 1/4 mile at a time is only 20 trips down the 1320 and I'm quite certain it's seen many more than that.
O M G.....what some one will pay for a VIN and build tag.... I'm betting they will buy a complete Dynacorn body and transfer the drivetrain to it. That is nuts.
The difference being it WOULD be a real Chevrolet Camaro and not a Chinese copy. It still would be "lying" if you were to say it was original but the Dynacor bodied 396 convertible would be an out and out fraud if sold as original.
Most... of the "high" dollar cars have good VERIFIED history to go with them. In the past 4 or 5 years there has been some questionable practices or I should said.. accused questionable.. A couple years ago there was a ZL1 that sold on Barret that I think came from Reggie Jackson's collection and was accused of being a Rebody and the vin tag switched.
Some poor guy paid a mint for the car because it was supposed to be a real deal. He would've been better off to just build a clone and save money.
I've also seen "Blank" vin tags for sale of Ebay... Which is total BS. These people have the means to try and make whatever car they want and rip people off.
