I have never blown a tranny at that power level with a TH350. I've snapped off the bellhousings and ripped off tail shafts before though. I would either rebuild the stocker with a B&M kit (or equivalent) or buy a TCI unit.

i ve i rebuild it with a b&m master racing overhaul kit
do i still need to buy a b&m shift kit to the ad in summit catalog says:no valve body components except oem valve body gaskets. thanks |

i ripped 2 th-350 trannies to peices with a mild 307...
take it to a good transhop, get the upgraded sprag (first thing to usually fail besides the pump), a new front pump, red alto clutch packs, have it machined for extra clutches (more holding power not to expensive to have done), get a good shift kit like a transgo not that b&m or tci kit crapp they create no line pressure, a good coverter (i like Performance Torque Converters products), and a good transmission cooler (makes a huge difference in the life of an auto tranny) should be about bulletproof for your combo,... |

don't know much about transmissions this would be my firs trans rebuild
but i am a fast learner. do u mean the sprag drum or the intermediate sprag. what do u meen by line pressure. and what is the better oil for the trans. thanks |

get the transgo shift kit
get # 1201 GM-TH350 video with Paul Zank Rebuild kit and trans tools rented (Drivelineplus.com) and six pack of your favorite beverage and like Bobby said do the upgrades and its a "git R done " deal............................ |

i just put that transgo shiftkit in my trans this weekend. Piece of cake, seriously. Go for it!

the intermediate sprag, its the main weak link in a th-350, and by line pressure i mean just that, fluid line pressure, usually a good shift kit will increase line pressure a lil making your tranny more reliable and it will also make it shift harder/more consistently
I am not tranny person, but i have had many rebuilt over the last 2 years, when you ruin 2 stock powerglides, followed by 2 stock th-350's you learn a little information.... and as far as the upgrades i have suggested, its exactly what was suggested to me, and done by the man that built my last transmission and he has been doing it since the 70's, and basically builds everyones transmissions around here that drag races.. guy knows what he is doin and talking about, |

thanks guys for the good info and help
the last question is about the oil whats the best oil for the th 350. and is it worth putting a deep oil pan under the th350. i am going to use a large trans cooler. oil firs in the radiator cooler and then trough the trans cooler. thanks |
|
||||
|
ive been told not to bother with a deep pan unless its strictly a race car because on the street it will low enough to get caught on speed bumps, bad area's in the road etc....
you should be just fine with the cooler, ive always just used standard dexron III non brand name fluid with a half bottle of lucas trans additive... but to each his own, i have always heard good things about all the aftermarket name brand synthetic.... couldnt hurt to use |

I switched from the standard Dexron stuff to Mobil1 synthetic and have enjoyed it. Did so with my engine, tranny, and rear and I swear I felt a difference.
