Good sbc350 buy?
Been awhile that I've posted but the truck has been coming along as budget allows. I wanted to get your guys take on this potential buy, looks like a good deal but need some additional opinions. Some things to keep in mind, guy has no way of showing me it runs as it's in storage. I'm not sure if the heads are "unleaded ready".
Thanks for the help! http://baltimore.craigslist.org/pts/2529322128.html |

Wayyyy expensive if you ask me. Heads probably dont have hardened seats. Compression is usually low, like crd said. If you can get it for around $300 without the tranny, then it would be a better deal.

'73 would have hardened seats, which wouldn't be an issue.. not a bad deal if you could hear it fire, or bump it over by hand to check compression.. Add up the parts cost. Probably good for 260hp, compression around 8.5:1 most likely which is reasonable.. It's worth $1k with the trans and other parts it comes with. that's relativly cheap if you add everything up... Even if a '73 350 is not the best 350, it's a decent deal

It appears to be a smog 350 to me. One in which the owner has thrown some stuff on it to dazzle the eye as many are pulled in by chrome dazzle into thinking it looks that good it`s gotta be fast too. If only that were true.
I`m with Cool Rockin` on this, I`d get a Vortec 350 which comes with what you need to build a butt kicker. |
