How big? $300 isn't going to buy much of a toolbox, if you are looking for both top and bottom.
EDIT: I found this @ Harbour Freights' website, I have absolutely no idea as to the quality, but it is in your price range. I have never seen one of these, or been to a harbour freight, as we don't have them in Canada, but picked it because you may have one near you. ![]() link to the page: Tool box set for $350.00 |

That was a Tool Chest I was considering. I didn't see one available at my HF. It seems the 13-Drawer Cabinet from HF some people think is a better compared to that one.
I was considering this Stanley Chest and Cabinet Set from Costco, but they don't carry it around here. |

HF is chinese made. The usa is going down the tubes cause we cant make anything to compete at least price wise.Buy a craftsman box, if its made at least on the North American continent and if not buy an older used box from some mechanic who need s the money. I hate chinese made S**t, unless it is chop suey of course. At least a used box stands a chance of being american made and you can still get a deal on one.
If people want to buy cheap crap at least we should do is make some here in america, hey lets give them what they want. |

I just hate to see people buy that chinese made stuff,it usually breaks soon after purchase. Buying american, you could say, is futile, but at least your not giving your money straight to the chinese. It pays to shop around. A box like he pictured doesnt offer any space on top for any kind of use. A bottom box is good as it gives an extra workspace on top which is pretty nice, as well as plenty of room for tool storage. There are plenty of good brands that are quality american made like matco, mac, craftsman, waterloo is also a good box.I have a matco (waterloo) and it has roller drawers. I bought it cash 15 years ago for 1200 bucks. It looked like new then. There are deals out there. |

Can't Find a Used Box!
I've tried looking for a good used Tool Chest Combination, but have seen nothing. Usually the box is too beatup to considering buying it, or the guy is asking to much for what he has and won't negotiate.
I'd be willing to spend more on a good used setup. I think looking for used tools and equipment is great when you find a good deal. Sometimes though it just takes more time looking for something used than just going to the store and buying it! Why do people think putting stickers on their Tool Chest and Boxes increases their value? That's like putting bumper stickers on your car!

i would suggest you contact all the snap-on and mac and matco etc. dealers in your area and see if they have any trade-ins or have them keep an eye out for a used box in your price range
most of them will take your name and number |

Lowes Boxes
I've read good reviews about Lowes Tool Chests and Boxes. I've never seen any Tool Chest at Lowes I thought I would personally buy though. I think a lot of it has to do with what's available at your local Lowes store.

If you watch Sears, they will have specials monthly on craftsman stuff.
I got all my tools, craftsman, on sale from sears. Aquired them over a period of about a year, but got most of them in one sale. I think it was their second biggest set for somewhere around 250 bucks. I got my box from them also, great quality, it has a chest, a middle four drawer piece, and top part thats 9 drawer. Got it for a little over 250 bucks also! Just have to watch, and check every week or two, never know when they ordered too many, or have some older models they want to move! |
