Goodyear, is it a Good Place to Work?

I was wondering if anybody has worked at Goodyear? Did you have a good or bad experiences there? It seems like a good place to work, but it's hard to tell unless you actually work there.

There is a Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Lawton, Oklahoma and at one time the deaths from Cancer was higher there than any place in the U.S.A. I lost an Aunt, Uncle and Cousin that lived there and they all died of Cancer !

I'm just stating some facts and that is all !

I feel terrible for you losses! Did they work in a plant that made Tires?

I'm actually talking about a Retail store, that does basic maintenance on cars. You know oil changes, filter changes, brakes, changing tires, etc.

Oh, OK, I misunderstood - - - i suppose that it would depend on the Management as far as a good place to work, however, I think that Goodyear has a pretty good reputation as far as their products go.

Did for a while. The best I can say is the shop was warm, clean and the equipment was good.

There is a big difference between corporate and personally owned shops, they are night and day, corporate is fine, the others were lacking, my son did both and found corporate owned much better in all aspects

Do you have a job now ? Do you really need to change jobs ? Is that the kind of place you really want to work ?

The real question is, Do you NEED the job ?

I definitely could use the job. I'd rather find a job in a good Independent Shop, rather than a quick oil change place. You need to take what you can in this economy.

Right now, tuner shps are in the highest priority here in the mid atlantic states, kids and adults can't get enough of them. If you have knowledge of tuning through programs for secific computers in the import area, this is growing immensly. Adding lowered suspension, able to do alignments and so on. Theymay only be looking for a few horespower but be sure, they are willing to pay.

My son moved to an S&S tire store and found he is doing nothing more than minor maintenence, mounting HUGE tires for SUV's and simple oil changes. The owner is more afraid to actually sell an R&R of say a steering rack than he is an oil change.

In todays economy....anyplace where you can get a paycheck is a good place to work. Just sayin.
