Today as I passed a junkyard I spotted what looked like a really short El Camino. But it looked weird, so I stopped to take a look. It was a Dodge Rampage. (???) never heard of one of these let alone see one. It was maroon, had a five speed and I don't know what size engine. Has anyone else ever heard of these? When were they made?
A front wheel drive pickup!?? With a 2.2L!!!! :boxing: ain: That's just wrong. Bet that thing can't make it up a hill because it's so underpowered. And here I thought that the smallest engine dodge ever made was a v6.
If they were real popular Chrysler they would have stuck around longer -- but at the time that was Chrysler's answer to cheaply produce something to sell.....
They really weren't a bad vehicle for the suburban folk that mostly use a truck bed to carry a couple bags of mulch.....
I have pictures of a local guys rampage its pro street 500+ inch hemi with a 8 71 weiand on it. It gets alot of looks the swap was a real pain the valve covers are almost out the hood
The local one around here is black with a red pinstripe and a Top fuel style wing :nono: everything but the wing i like Im still trying to find the stupid pics But the top of the bug catcher is basically roof height its on a strut front end and sits in the weeds
I can remember when there were quite a few running around. I have a friend who has several and I believe he converted on to a turbo using all parts from a similiar turbo charged car.
I think the idea is great and I wish there were more of these still made. "Utes" are big in Australia and many are still offered there.
Also don't forget the VW Rabbit pickup of about the same era. Those could be had with a diesel that got about 45 mpg.
Yes everyone had a diesel back then. Ford used a very nice little German made diesel in the Ranger and escort but I don't remember much about them. Even Lincoln Town Cars could be had with a straight 6 diesel but I never actually saw one. Toyota had a real nice little diesel in their pickups that would get 35-40 and run forever, pretty low on power though.
