got the 350 out with a surprise

I have been working on the 350 in the 63 C-10 for a couple weeks. About 3 days ago I decided it was time to remove the motor and tranny. Monday I unhooked the motor mounts, removed the radiator and hoses. I woke up at 5:30 this morning and decided to work some more. I removed the manifolds, and crossmember. I got the engine puller hooked up and decided to take a break. I came in and was on the computer and dad says if I take the hood off the motor would be out. He had it almost out but it was hitting the hood. I went out and we took off the hood. It was out in about 5 minutes. I need to put a freeze plug in it. The good news is the turbo 350 has been rebuilt. I wanted to use the powerglide but since this tranny is rebuilt I will use it. Here are some pics

I know the heat sucks. I was about to call it a day at 10:30. I had came in. I was on here and dad had had lifted the motor almost out. So I went out and finished. At about 4:00 we moved it into the garage. My 69 F-100 has all black interior so being in it for 5 minutes in the yard will roast you. It was on the back property so I put it in the bed and hauled it to the garage

Extreme cold is bad too. I had to change the camshaft in my '78 Monte when it was about minus 15* back almost 13-14 years ago. Have a pot of coffee, work on it for 5 minutes, another pot of coffee....yadda, yadda. Living on a windswept ridge and without a shop to work in sucked.

Anyways, looks good seeing it out, doesn't it?

In a while, Chet.

Looking good. Never put a powerglide in a truck that heavy for high performance. The TH350 will definitely work better.

it's a longbed. The truck isn't much count. The floors are rusty. Both front fenders have tons of bondo in them and big rust holes. When I was taking out the tranny crossmember I realized some of the cab braces were rusted. The frame is broke off behind the rear wheels and there is no bed floor. The bedsides are bent up too. I put the truck on craiglist for $250 and a junkman offerd me $175. Needless to say dad will take it on its last ride in a day or 2. I traded dad this body and 2 maverick hulls for the 48 wrecker in my gallery

while cleaning out the cab I got another suprise. About 4 or 5 years ago my uncle gave me and dad a 4 barrel holley carb off a bus. It had got stuck in this truck a while ago and I had forgot about it. I saw a carb in a bag and I figured it has just another junk quadrajet. I pulled it out and realized it was a holley. The only bad thing about it is that it has a governer because it was off a bus. Now I have a holley carb for the maverick when I go to build it
