Got the '50 on the road!

The old Dodge has officially passed safety inspection and I got insurance yesterday! Got my plates (temporary, since I'm getting custom "NIFTY50" plates soon) on and greased the old girl up before taking her for a ride. My dad insisted he was gonna do the first drive in case anything weng wrong. It steered HARD like a madman on a dead stop, untill we realized a tire was empty! Filled it up and it was ten times better. So away we go again untill I realized my engine is running at 200 so we slow down and drove home slowly. Added water to the rad and we were off again running 160 heat. Everything was good untill the rear tires locked up truck went sideways and there was smoke everywhere. I jump out in panic and went to look if the brakes caught on fire but all 4 wheels were cool. "Oh Mike, I left the parking brake on" goes my dad We let 'er cool off and keep on driving. Picture this, we're at a red light first car in row when it dies! No gas... hahaha, I jump out again with my jerry can (I was prepared) and run to get gas while my dad redirects traffic around the truck. I get the gas and we drive into the closest station. We fill 'er up and make sure we get her home before anything else happens. Today I went out and noticed the brakes had leaked so I tightend up the bleeding valves again and that seemed to have done it. Time for another test run. It dies on me again just no throttle. We barely get her home and pull out the fuel filter. Drained a ton of water out of the lines and reinstalled filter. Tuned the carb and off we were again for another test drive. Worked like a champ! For the rest of the evening I drove the wheels of the truck and let my brother drive quite a bit too....ITS INSANE HOW MUCH FUN IT IS TO DRIVE THAT BIG HEAP, feels like you're a big semi or something
Anyways, just to let you all know it's on the road, and thanks for the people that helped me with the brake bleeding question

Happy motoring,

Mike

It sounds like you had a great time. Those old trucks have a coolness to them, have fun with yours. Dan

That is great!
My first car I drove to school was a 51 Pontiac, straight 8 Hydromatic.
Wish I still had it! (I still have all 4 hubcaps for that car)

Just make sure you never sell the truck!

Planning to keep the truck forever, even if I dont drive it anymore I'll still keep it. How many people can say they still own their first car? I wish I'll always be one of them.
Drove the truck to church and back today and I think we got her tuned pretty good now. Painted the running boards a nice gloss black and will do the same for the bumper today. I'm taking it to its first car show tonight, I'm so excited!

Well damn that first run sounded like quite an adventure. How's it feel to have the coolest ride at school?

Apparently the kids with the 5.0's and Camaros/Firebirds/TA's have the coolest rides in school

I put on a few miles on it since and everything is good except I think my gas tank has a lotta rust inside since it clogs up the fuel filter with rust particles. So I always just clean the filter and trap and drive it again untill it stalls, then repeat procedure.

Thanks guys, had to take it off the road for a few days to flush the gas tank and clean/rebuild the carb since the tank and the carb were full of rust particles that made my truck stall at every intersection but I should have it back on the road for the sunday cruise in.
