My 92 year old dad about 4 years ago and my 30 something nephew, so as you know in my family it is "crazy uncle Bob" and what has he done now? Next project, I'm building an electric dinghy for the sail boat. Will be a catamaran style hard bottom inflatable, Lithium batteries, 50+ mile range per charge, and hang on to your hat, 60+ mph. I did my thesis on minimum wetted surface vessels (fast ferries), and got the numbers to work out. With the current drop in price on solar panels, will refit the galley to all electric, and with the dinghy also electric, I will no longer carry propane or gasoline on board.

Funny stuff. I love bikes but gave up my last cruiser years ago when I bent the crank trying to muscle it up a hill on the bike path. I have an old 27 speed Raleigh that I like but it's getting tired and skips the chain in the lowest gears. I also have an old 18 speed Schwinn I really like. If I had the extra money, I would buy one of the new 29 inch bikes, love those huge wheels. $1500 for a bike is not happening tho, that's a lot of car parts.

Lol!I looked it up and someone's selling a 31cc motor from a weed eater with a broken shaft for $20 obo. Tempting. Ya know, its too bad no one's selling one as part of a package deal with that drill press I want.

Man, by the time we're done with this, I'm gonna end up with the most aerodynamic, street-legal, single-seater go-kart ever. It'll probably be powered by pedals, gas, hydrogen and electricity, each one available on demand. Since its got electric power, then might as well have a wind mill and a solar panel that serves duty as a hard-top convertible roof. And it'll all be controlled via an iPhone.

If you think I've lost it, check this out: "Utah duo create 'quadbrid' vehicle"

Suppose we can call you that here as well lol! It's so cool that you've got family members who enjoy the same hobbies you do.

I think I read about it on your forum. Obviously you've been playing with electricity long enough to have the confidence you do. I am definitely interested in updates when you undertake this project.

I'm not facing any hills per say, at least not compared to what you would call hills over in Black Hills, SD. I'm currently fighting a bridge over a wash. I just don't think cruisers are made for inclines. Hopefully I won't break anything (aside from the busted ego, of course).

Got that right. Car parts, or a new project. I did look up the 29" bikes and found a few that were about $600. Still a bit much though.
