as the topic says i have a gravel garage floor it sucks yo work under a car or any thing does anyone know anything i can do to make the floor easyer to work on. i have tried rubber floor mats, card board, and even plywood the ply wood is ok till it starts to splinter any one know a good cheap way to not get a rock in the back

How about renting a compactor and compact the gravel , then get some sand hauled in and then rake it smooth the sand. Compact the sand until it is rock solid. If you want to be fancy you can put some filler fabric and styrofoam from your local hardware hardware store.

Rake the floor with a garden rake to get any larger stones out and put down some finer gravel works for me..

I can tell you what I use. That pad from Jeg's. I carry it with me
It's a little bothersome moving around, but way better than a creeper (my hair is to long for a creeper)

Going to have to check this out for that reason. I've just gone to wearing a hat when I work on cars just out of safety and tucking my hair underneath.

What about an old piece of linoleum or carpeting or maybe some indoor/outdoor carpeting from a home improvement store?

I had a good friend, ( Killed in a car wreck last year ) .he had a 1 ton flatbed dump and contacts with a local concrete company, He could get concrete left over and brought back to the yard for free. they would call him and he would throw a plastic tarp over the cab and bed and they would dump it in the back / He would use it for non structural things on his 5 acre place. A concrete vibrator really helps to be able to work it. He brought me 2 loads last year. we poured a sidewalk in front of the shop and from the shop tp the house. It was HARD work since we were building forms and pouring at the same time. watered down concrete left overs won't be as strong but better than rocks.

also ,for laying on under the car some horse stall matting would be good
inexpensive p-up bed mat
i do a lot of work out in the gravel driveway and its way better than a piece of cardboard

I've had my jackstands sink in when I lived in an apartment. and the jack left dents . If you did your garage in asphalt you would need some plywood squares to put undet them. When I built the new shop, 40 X 120 I was going to leave the back half gravel and use it for storage. My sons talked me out of it. They were going to come and help pour the floor but the three of them couldn't get the same day off so I bit the bullet and forked out the 7 G's to have it done in one day.

My back pasture had broken pieces of sidewalk in the creek bed to prevent erosion from horses tromping in the mud. When I got annexed into the city limits, industrial limited uses, the city inspector did not like the concrete. I said I was trying to save the fish down stream> he said it had to go. I didn't want to have to pay to dump it . We had been getting mud holes in the winter in front of the shop so I dug out a foot of dirt, stacked it in a pile then we but the old sidewalks back together as tight as possible then put the dirt back on top. NO more mud holes If you could find old concrete of uniform thickness you could do a patio style floor. later cover it with a couple inches of new concrete
