Great Day!

Today I was at my Mom's new place and there in the garage of her complex was the coolest little 32 I've ever seen. My 6 year old and I walked up for a closer look. The owner of the car was sitting there at his work bench. After a few moments chatting with him. He showed us some of his awards for the car and I began looking at his extensive photo galley around the walls of his garage. Turns out this guy has built and stuff for every form of racing. He had photos at Lions Drag strip (my old stomping grounds) He was on Dan Gurney's pit crew at Indy. I was able to sit an chat with him for almost an hour. What a blessing! I bet this guy has forgotten more than I know. He's currently working on a puke tank design for pro stock apps. This guy is well into his 70's for sure and still active. That's the way I wanna be for sure.

Regards
Mark

Don't let my wife see ya saying that, she wants a girl. With 2 boys and me she outnumbered and wants to even the odds.

I know how she feels...............wife, 2 daughters, 2 granddaughters...Oh well, at least I know where all my tools are. More than I could say for my poor dad, when I got into his workshop.

Those are rodding moments that you cherish. I will never forget the time I went to the Gasser Gathering in St. Louis and sat at a table with K.S. Pittman & Ohio George Montgomery drinking a Coke and listening to them reminisce and bench race for over two hours.

I talked to E.J.Potter (the Michigan Madman) on the phone one day. I was ordering his book and he answered the phone. Interesting guy.

Yep your right Willies, He really was happy to talk shop, I had to go because my Mom was waiting for me to take her shopping. He told us to come back anytime and he offered my sons a ride in his Rod. (hey I wanna go too)!!!!!

I think I'm going to take him to lunch soon and just talk shop, He also seems to have a pretty cool die cast collection of front end dragsters most of them are cars he worked on. For you young guys coming up seek out this type of friendship it will pay off big time for you, not for what you'll gain monetarily but what you'll come away with in knowledge. I remember being young and thought I knew everything, I realize now how much I missed by not listening to older adults who knew WAY more than I could.

Mark

Nope Lions Drag Strip is now extinct, in it's day it was considered some of the fastest blacktop in Southern California.
