I'm pretty sure they make a kit so it bolts right in. I've also seen a few at car shows. Pretty sweet. I wish I could afford a Gremlin right now, I'd love to have one.

There is no bolt in kit for SBC into a small body AMC/ but there is also no need for a SBC in an AMC ither... just get a '72-'91 AMC 360 or even a 401 ( common in Jeep Wagoneers ) it'll bolt in with a small body AMC V8 crossmember or bulltear conversion mounts, and couple it with an AMC TF-727 or TF-904.. AMC- TH400's are common in jeeps. just need to convert them to 2wd.. A stock 6cyl 904 trans would hold a mild 360 but not much more, stock 3spd manual might actually hold quite a bit... SBC also completly devaluates the cars so any money you put in it, you will not get back out of it.. it has been done, but many are hack jobs, few conversions are done correctly..

You think this Gremlin is going to become a Collector car?? Have you tried to find AMC engines lately?? Put the SBC in it and drive it. Have some fun!! I haven't seen any kits. But, the installation is simple. If you can fab some engine mounts and adapt some shorty headers.. Great little toy.

Two Gremlins that were regulars at the strip I used to Tech at. Both SBC powered and easily ran low thirteens. Looked like easy swap.. FUN CARS!!

Yeah not worrying about getting any money back out of it just seems like it would be fun.I've got this fox body I've kinda lost interest in so I'm gonna try to make a deal.

Does this mean the SBC is already in this Gremlin, only its bad?...If its already in there, you dont need anything...All the parts are already there, you just have to change the SBC for another SBC.....

the gremlin X had a v8

but like matt said u'd be better off looking for an AMC 360 or 401.. they are the same block.. well in the 70's they were.

I think he is talking about two different gremmies One with a sbc and one not. But shoot if you know the guy that already has a sbc in his, then there you go see what was done by looking at his and talking to him. Never know he might just help you on yours when you need it. JMO

Theres a lot cutting involved. it's not a job that I would undertake unless it was going to be a radical build like what Hemi Gremmie was doing..being the distributor is at the rear, the firewall needs clearenced. a member on www.theamcforum.com had a Gremlin that he street raced with a 350 swapped in and eventually tore it up to the point he junked it.. he was selling the mod'd crossmember as a bolt in 'kit' for $350 IIRC.. He may still have it, but being he treated the cars he had like throwaways. I don't know how good it is.. IIRC his user name is Forest

If I were to brand swap an AMC, I would use a 302. bit smaller and it won't have all the complications

AMC 360 engines were made until 1991, 401's until '79 IIRC.. there only hard to find if your not looking for them.... I personally know where 3 rusted Wagoneers sit, and a J10.. that's within a 20 mile radius of my house..

who's to say that the Gremlin in question is a 6cyl anyway? they did come with 304's.
