Sew foam is simply 1/4" or 1/2" open cell (soft) foam that can come with a variety of different backings applied that will hold stitching without the stitching cutting through the foam. Fabric is glued to it and then stitched around the perimeter to make seat parts, usually just the top of the lower seat and the front of the seat back, but you can use it for all the seat parts if you use 1/4" on the bottom and side bands.
