I ve used copper pipe pieces for fillers. I have a fine wire wheel that I clean- buff parts with first, a little bit of invisible corrosion caused all kinds of problems with my old Tig welder. On welding tips and tricks.com Jody shows using a 1 ft long piece of bare stranded old ground cable as an extra ground, HE sometimes wraps it around the part and says he doesn't get the ground burn spot on the part. and says a lot of Mig problems can be caused by inadequate ground. I tried one of those HF magnetic grounds, it only worked for a while. It probably needs to be taken apart and cleaned,
