ground power wire, dizzy problems?
Ok new to the forum, glad I joined as I come here slit to research stuff! So here's my question.. I have a 79 camaro with a 383.. I had a holley Carb which I got rid of and bought a new quick fuel hot rod series 680 cfm... I installed it Friday and modified my wire harness to clean the engine up. I put one of those heat protector sheaths from D.E.I. around my power and ignition wire that goes to the starter... So I fired it up Saturday. And ran like Hell.... Popping from the exhaust, lots of pinging, but it was running very rich... I started it off and on Saturday and Sunday, and it sounded like the motor was shot... So last night I pulled the drivers side valve cover off and saw some sparking on the bellhousing! Apparently the wire sheath had slid down, rested on a power terminal on the starter, and was grounding out! So my question... Could my motor misfiring and running like crap be from this? Maybe interfering with the distributor? Or did I wipe a cam? Don't have time to fire it up today so i figured I would grab some opinions... Thanks for all the info in advance!
