guage
hey, wondering if someone knows how to check if an oil dash gauge is defective i disconnect the wire to the sending unit and gauge rises to max shouldnt i have to ground the wire first then it will max i changed the sending unit, just trying to see if these parts are defective before taking on the task of replacing my oil pump

oil Gage
you did half of the test ok..removing the wire causes the gage to go max ,grounding the wire causes gage to go to minimum. this shows the gage is working. this the easiest way to check it without special tools.
