Face it.... you come on our board and defend a group of sleazy marketers who repeatedly broke our rules and you get upset when someone questions your motives??? Well, most of us understand exactly what you're trying to do, and apparently you don't like it. If you want your board to be part of that marketing scam then by all means do it, but don't come over here and get upset with people when they see through your rather transparent charade. In other words, defending your girlfriend Melissa and your best buddy James is not winning you any friends here. Your only purpose posting on this board is to DEFEND a group of sleazy people who have repeatedly broken our rules. That's all you've done since you arrived here and even a blind man could see what you're doing. Its easy for us to pat Jon on the back because it was he who busted a stealth marketing campaign that was designed to bombard internet forums with ads and other crap regardless of the boards rules. He did it and he is the one who deserves the credit. We support him because he is RIGHT, not because he owns this board. If you let slimy marketers get away with this stuff then you will be contributing to defeating the usefulness of these boards in short order. Why you don't seem to mind this and overtly defend these "people" leads me to ask only one question. Exactly how much are you being paid by these slime-balls to do this anyway???? |

Speaking just for myself here, the point you're missing is that we DID know exactly what PowerTV was up to from the get-go. Post links/videos on the forum that are paid for by companies and advertising. What's not to get? You're making a judgment based on one side of the story, not the whole big picture. I guess I'll have to come up with a list of links like Jon has showing how many sites out here actually LIKE (imagine that) having the PowerTV posts with links to race coverage. If you don't like PowerTV's race/event coverage, don't watch it. But you better not turn on ESPN for coverage either, that'll just make you a hypocrite. They are paid to cover events and show ads too. |

Greg's getting the same paycheck from them that I am. ZERO. The thing you don't get is that they broke your rules here, that's what you have control over. HERE. Several of us wouldn't even be here if not for a negative ad campaign that included our sites. You don't have control over all the forums on the internet, yet you guys are on some deluded mission to wipe the internet clean of one group. I find that laughable at best. Does my knowing from the very beginning that they pay for their video hosting via advertising skew my opinion of them? Do you ask every site you go to on the internet who foots the bill? Would you start a negative ad campaign for every site that gets money from advertisers and posts on internet forums that you have no control over? |

It took you all of 7 minutes to come up with that one.
Sorry, I was being sarcastic. |

Let's Move On !!!!!
Jon or Centerline
Why not cut this thread off. It has degenerated into pi$$ing contest with name calling and finger pointing that is going nowhere except deeper into that realm. Booger/Corral have their point of view which will never correspond with the point of view of most folks on this forum including me. I do prefer this no spam/no advertising thread over the many that rely on someone or a business doing some advertising, So, let's get on with the business of having fun in the car hobby and incidentely, here. Jon, you need to continue doing your thing - Booger/Corral we (I, anyhow) respect your point of view tho it really doesn't seem to be ours (mine?). Dave |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Booger@MSDR & Corral Dude -- Despite your objections, judging from the posts on other sites, and the response to my emails, the feedback on the PowerTV issue has been more than 90% in support of our point of view. I'm not sure what is meant by "continuing" or "not letting this stop". We sent out emails to 70 or so affected admins. There looks to be at least a couple of hundred sites affected by PowerTV, and I'll be continuing my "duty/responsibility" to inform them as well. We'll likely have a discussion about this, as will many other forums. It affects all of us.
This isn't about freaking out on someone for a TOS violation. Bans are rare on this forum -- we try to solve most problems with discussion and private communication. We contacted PowerTV and the involved companies extensively. They refused to stop doing this, despite multiple requests. We knew that they were on our friends' forums, and the forums of lots of other automotive sites. I would hope that, in the future, if you guys notice something like this on your forums, and ask them to stop, and they won't, and you know that they're on our site too, then you'll drop us a line to give us a heads up. "Duty", "responsibility", or whatever. It means you're watching out for us, and you got our back. This thread may likely need to be closed, but, in the interest of open dialogue, I'd like to delay that moment for as long as possible. |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Another forum has picked this up, V8Buick.com: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...322#post1117873 .
Also, James tried to defend PowerTV by attacking me personally again, this time on ThirdGen.org. It looks like they asked him to stop posting sponsor videos on ThirdGen.org if he wasn't paying for advertising (in the post, he said: "I was asked by the Mods and Owners of this site not to post further videos unless we would become involved/sponsor the site"). Anyway, it looks like they're not falling for it. Right after his post, a ThirdGen.org member posted with a 2-word reply: "just die". |
