re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
lowROLLERchevy - either you did a good job of editing that web page or the "forum spamming" has been deleted. Please inform us about this.

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
We were getting way off topic here, guys. In regard to Booger@MSDR's reception of spam emails, I've moved those posts to a new thread here: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/rec...ils-131250.html .
Here's where we left off: Here are three more sites publicly posting about this: http://www.streetcarchaos.net/forum...ead.php?t=11337 http://www.carjunkieforums.com/inde...ic=793.msg23147 http://fbodyaddict.com/forum/forums...w.asp?tid=27273 I've noticed that the automotive forum admins are employing a variety of methods to handle PowerTV. Two common ways that this is being handled are deleting (or editing) the threads in which they've posted videos, and banning the PowerTV usernames. On some of the sites that are banning PowerTV people, you can see it because the word "Banned" is placed under their username, or listed on their user profile page, or an admin/mod publicly mentions that they've been banned. Here are some more examples that are coming up in Google today: powermelissa banned on DFWStangs.net powermelissa banned on StangNet.com powerjon banned on StangNet powermelissa banned on VADriven.com powermelissa banned on GTCars.ca powermelissa banned on NastyZ28.com powermelissa banned on DigitalCorvettes.com powermelissa banned on TampaRacing.com powerjon banned on TampaRacing.com powermelissa banned on SEMBMuscleCarClub.com powerjon banned on SVTPerformance.com nmrajames banned on StreetFire.net. |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Here's another one. This time it's StangSource.com: http://www.stangsource.com/forums/index.cgi?t=5824 .
You can see a pattern emerge as to how PowerTV is trying to do damage control. They describe the situation (or me) as "crazy", then they link to their "side" of the story, and invite people to call them on the phone to discuss this. It looks like it didn't really matter. The StangSource.com admin stopped them cold, and did a good job of clearly describing what they're doing wrong. Here's what he said: Quote:

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
I've finished researching and writing the SpankMyMarketer.com page on PowerTV. Here it is:
PowerTV Exposed. 500 links, plus info from their MySpace pages, details on "viral marketing" and how they're breaking the law, forums where they've banned, and plenty more. Thanks to lowROLLERchevy for designing the "SpammerTV" logo, and giving permission for it to be used on SpankMyMarketer.com. I've also made a new banner. We'll run that for a little while longer, and get the word out to the rest of the admins of the affected forums. Hopefully this will put an end to PowerTV, and the unethical practices of the companies that are paying them to spam forums. Enjoy: -- PowerTV Exposed. |

I like the new banner a lot better. The bald guy was just killing me.
The research you have done is impressive. I hope that people understand this is not class warfare, its about honesty and fairness. |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Heads up -- they deleted the part on the PowerTV employee's MySpace page where he says: "I work for powerTV Media. We are a online viral video marketing company that focuses on the automotive market."
That was expected, and it's why I saved copies of the pages referenced in the PowerTV article. You can still see his original MySpace page saved here: http://spankmymarketer.com/cache/pr...endid=171758461 . |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
I can just hear the screaming going in meetings and in their cube farm offices at PowerTV: "HOW DO WE 'FIX' JONATHAN RUBINSTEIN AND HIS CRUSADE - PERMANENTLY". Love it. I happened to catch about 15 minutes (as much and then some as I could handle) this past weekend on Spike Channel. Why do they have to yell during their entire 30 minute infomercial? I don't need to be impressed that their latest widget is going to increase horsepower by 500 with no other changes to the stock SBC. I even have to shut "Billy Mays" off when he is huckstering OxyClean for his 30 seconds.

PowerTV
I work for an aftermarket company, and have been contacted about having PowerTV present our company in web videos, apparently to be done much the same way as has been described at length here in this thread. I had no idea any of this B.S. was going on with them, but I will not deal with a company who utilizes such underhanded, misleading tactics as they have been using. I post on many other forums, and have always respected the terms of service as they relate to posting commercial messages in the forums. There have been many times I could have recommended one of my company's products to a poster, but have not done so in the interest of abiding by the rules.

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
I've not said anything about this, and really hadn't kept up with it much. However, GM is already in enough trouble, and they can't keep taking a loss as they have been or it's going to fold, in my view this can't happen. GM goes under not only are a lot of jobs gone, but the very brand I always stood behind which is Chevrolet will be gone. This gives the foreign car makers a even bigger foothold here in the states. If Ford was to fold with GM there won't be any american car makers left, and all the future will have to pick from are foreign makes. Do we want our kids, our nephews and neices running around in ricers calling them hot rods? Now I will say, I don't agree with spamming or any illegal activity with any given company. And GM is not offering anything that has any kinds of looks, they already ruined the corvette by making the front end look like a Viper, thanks to Mr. Lutz who should have retired a long time ago. The truck line looks like plucked chickens, bat shaped headlights? ***? The camaro looks like a new mustang thats been sent through the trash compactor and hammered back into the shape of a car and it alone isn't going to pull GM out of the hole. When you offer nothing exciting or anything with any looks you can't expect anyone to buy it. I never bought a car for the heck of buying it, I always bought it cause I liked the body style.

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Rooble55 -- nice work. IMO, that's the best way to "market" your company in forums. We have many business owners and employees in this forum, and I'm sure that they've attracted additional business simply by their presence in this community.
Some of the biz owners are savvy-ing up, and they're assigning a guy to make the rounds of all the relevant forums, and post in threads like a normal contributing member, without trying to conceal anything. Imagine that! Anyway, 10 new discussions are covering this. 7 of them are public, here they are: http://www.1320drag.net/online/othe....html#post25346 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...ad.php?t=274560 http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=76231 http://www.classicheartbeat.com/for...read.php?t=4703 http://horsepowerjunkies.com/forums...ead.php?t=60303 http://www.sn95forums.com/forum/ind...216.0;topicseen http://www.vadriven.com/forums/showthread.php?t=221169 Also, found this bicycle forum posted it too: http://bustedspoke.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=41427 |

kinda like Barry K does here? - owner of SPI paints for anyone that doesn't know imagine this, he is an active member who gives painting advise (among other things) and because he doesn't force SPI down anyones throats, he winds up getting customers off the forums, and does so totally within the confines of the advertising policy and if you contact him to make a purchase, and you dont really know what u need for a specific job, he makes sure u get the right stuff. wow, imagine that, if your a great guy, people have no problem buying what your selling, and you dont wind up w/ threads like this about you, lol |
