re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
This has made it onto PRWatch.org, also known as the nonprofit Center for Media and Democracy. They describe themselves as follows:
Quote:
Here's the article: http://www.prwatch.org/node/6935 . As a result it's being posted on various places around the web. Even found it on Craigslist. Also, searches on Google for "powerTV" are now returning the SpankMyMarketer.com page on PowerTV in the #7 position |

A couple more today:

Powerjon's post is a real piece of work but it's the post right after his that REALLY means something. |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Two more forums:
http://www.d-series.org/forums/show...734#post1125604 http://www.bcsm.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=3321 Also I've been watching powerjon make the rounds of the PowerTV discussions we're listing, and try to do some spinning. We just saw how he got busted at MustangBlog.com. He's not having much luck on RX7Club.com either. On 1320Drag.net, he tried to join in a PowerTV discussion, and someone posted about his car "collection". There are also some that don't realize that he's been claiming to own different cars on different forums (depending on the forum) even a "1990 Ford Focus" (they weren't even manufactured until 2000), and haven't figured him out yet: http://www.motownmuscle.com/forums/...ead.php?t=65593 http://purposebuilt.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22575 |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
He probably got his 1990 Ford Focus by upgrading a 1973 Ford Escort that was previously a 1962 Ford Maverick.

Two more:
http://horsepowerheaven.com/navigat...navigation.html http://www.mustangforums.com/m_4549243/tm.htm Also, got an email from an admin of the Midwest F-Body Association. They've banned powerjon, powermelissa, and nmrajames. You can see the word "Banned" under their username in their user profiles. http://ubb.mfba.org/member.php?u=6382 http://ubb.mfba.org/member.php?u=4108 http://ubb.mfba.org/member.php?u=5240 |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
I just want to add my moral support. They are trying to make you the bad guy, they always do, its their best defense. The others will run away if they cant be traced to anything.
As many have stated, these aftermarket companies really influence the path of the hotrodding hobby. Hardcore's LS7 block has been out forever it seems and now all of a sudden GM's LSX block appears to be the greatest thing out in along time. Powerblock is just a big commercial, I never thought I would get bored watching a show about hotrods but I do. Chevy Rumble is simply an aftermarket brochure although they do have indepth car features. Hotrods technical articles seem to be just installation instructions from any particular aftermarket company. These forums with real car ideas and solutions should not be tainted, anyone with any other motive other than showing off their work or helping fellow hotrodders will ruin this medium. I frequent stevesnovasite and although they did not get hit by the spammers news did travel over about this. The mods over there dont put up with any BS or drama but if they get big Im sure well be vunerable like this site and others. Keep up the good fight, I think this effort is much bigger than some people realize, they will not stop. Jason |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Thanks for the support NovaStar. While it's unfortunate that they've chosen to try to attack and discredit me personally, it's also a good sign -- it shows how desperate they really are.
I saw in our traffic logs that there was a discussion on StevesNovaSite.com about this. In addition to the 60 or so forums that are discussing this publicly, we've noticed 34 others so far that are having private discussions (we're only publishing the urls to the public discussions on other forums). I agree, this is much bigger than most people realize. It's one huge commercial, all paid for by the parts companies, masquerading as "news" or "event coverage". Anyway, there are 5 more public forum discussions on this: http://www.cowtownjeeps.com/forum/t...p?TOPIC_ID=2773 http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=992114 (yes, another one) http://www.3.8mustang.com/forum/sho...317#post3284635 http://www.v6power.net/vb/showthread.php?t=35970 http://twincityoutlaws.com/showthread.php?t=338 |

re: guerrilla marketing bust: PowerTV working for Holley, Comp Cams, SEMA, GM, and others
Looks like the list can be lengthened some more, www.goDragRacing.com also has a disccussion going on. These guys were voted the number 1 drag racing website by Competition Plus so i assume they are pretty good at knowing about this going on.

....and then there was Truck U
They should be force to list it as an infomercial. Speed channels "Chop Cut Rebuild" has run the episode on the Bricklin a dozen times now and they just keep restarting it soon as it has finished.
Can't trust anything anymore. ![]() |
