Whatever they are trying to do, they are not very good at it. The site they are trying to emulate "youtube.com" had 15,600,000 visitors last month, "powertvonline" had 2,380 visitors.

Excellent work , Jon.... and boy , do I mean work! whew! I couldn't write that many e-mails if I had to. Let alone jus to keep a forum 'pure' . which is the main reason that this is the only one I check out.
I've looked at sites like HAMb(sammich) and NastyZ28 , but they don't have the honest and unpromotional vibe that this one does. I applaud all the moderators who put their efforts into keeping this board REAL.

Truly interesting stuff, can not say it is all a big surprise, cause mind manipulation is rampant. A question could be asked are the name brands truly unaware they are being used or will this turn out to be a baseball and steroid kind of deal?

Jon you are like a pit bull, on these folks......... killer! grasshopper

I really like David and Goliath battles, the best part is David almost always wins and Goliath loses. This Goliath will tumble also. Jon, I admire your perseverance in what you believe in, keep up the great work, and I can only imagine how much work you've put into this. Other websites should be so luck as to have an administrator like you. Thanks, Dan

It starts at home.

Confront your friends and neighbors who are acting like sheep, and buying every hat, belt buckle and can of chew with a nascar logo or MLB logo or any "fast" part they saw advertised on their favorite make-believe hot rod show or magazine..

When you fall for the BS that pervades our media, you are not being forced to follow, you are being suckered into following.

It's like the war on drugs...stopping the stuff at the source isn't working, but educating our kids is.

Those big time operators will go away if the *** runs dry, but as long as people keep buying the big name stuff, that hooter is never gonna run dry.

Later, mikey

I'll give the other side of the coin (or at least my opinion)...

I personally don't see anything wrong with what Melissa did. She wasn't underhanded in any way and stated who she was and what she was doing.

The videos they shoot at shows like PRI and SEMA are great for the general public that never gets a chance to attend these shows or see some of these products. If you go to a show and talk to a manufacture they will give you their sales pitch. Now we just get to see it in the comfort of our homes. It cost money to produce these types of shows (of course much less for an internet show vs. a normal TV show) so it will take time to make enough money to get into better tech stories. The tech stories (just like regular TV, and magazines) will have to be "sponsored" in order to get the information out there. With that being said, I believe that will be a good thing. A manufacture can have a segment showing their benefits, as can their competitors. This will give the end user a chance to see the differences first hand.

The other, and more important in my mind concept is that you will be able to have "Customizable" TV. Picture "HotroddersTV.com" where you would have only things pertinent to us. Yes there would be commercialism, but wouldn't you watch the commercials if they pertained to your interests? Then there would be "32HighBoyTV.Com" and so on. I don't believe we'll be watching the standard channels in the future. With all of the "On-Demand" TV out there where you can watch exactly what you want when you want, this is the next step. Bike guys, can watch bikes 24/7, Car guys, or whatever. A channel dedicated to machining parts or whatever we want. It's time to think outside of the box.

I can certainly understand some boards getting upset because some of these companies are not supporting the community. In that case both sides need to do a better job, the companies of realizing the potential of the online communities, and the webmasters of doing a better job of "selling" what they have to offer to the companies.

Hi, new member. Welcome to the Hotrodders Bulletin Board

Not underhanded? That's hilarious. PowerTV is not mentioning that they're being paid by the companies to post those videos.

They violated our Terms of Service, and the Terms of Service of many other forums. It's illegal. That's why the lawyers are scrambling. Because these companies are paying PowerTV to break the law.

They're spamming forum admins on the side, too.

Also, their "big-time car girl" seems to have quite a change of interests, depending on what forum she's posting on. She's deceiving people.

It's not "TV", it's advertising. The advertisement takes the form of an "interview" or a "feature" or a "show", or whatever. The companies pay them for it. It's called advertiser-funded programming.

We're not "sponsored". We have plenty of free tech information. We're also not lying to people.

We've heard the old promise "We'll have more tech-oriented stuff in the future. Just keep watching, suckers."

We don't want their support. We don't allow advertising on our forums. We have plenty of business owners on our forums who make valuable contributions of knowledge and experience to this community -- without scamming us.

Classic .

By the way, couldn't help but notice that your first two posts on this board are to defend the PowerTV stealth marketing campaign, and to defend Comp Cams, one of the companies that sponsors the PowerTV stealth marketing campaign. It is, as they say, quite a coincidence .

To all others -- thanks for the thanks . There is indeed plenty of work invested into this, and I certainly appreciate that it's appreciated.

I would think that most people realize that is how All advertising is done (TV, Magazines, net, etc) maybe I just assume that people understand things.

If the folks at Power TV are breaking your rules than by all means they should be banned, but I highly doubt that the manufactures that are dealing with them know specifically each and every one of the websites out there.

Only knowing Melissa enough to see her at the track or shows, I couldn't say if she is deceiving people or not, because I have no way of knowing what she may or may not have at home.

Agreed, but they do also have race coverage, shows, and there are a number of place trying to do the online TV deal.

Without a doubt your site is by far one of the best out there, but there are also a number of sites that do charge.

I'm in no way affiliated with the folks at Comp. I know a number of people there, and have had dealings with them for the better part of 20 years.

I know first hand how hard you investigate things, you've helped me with issues here in the past. Coming from the manufacturing side of things, I don't see where getting information out like this is a bad thing. They're not making up names and giving fake reviews on products or anything of that nature, but again just my opinion.

All I know is, when I open up our home page and see that smiling smuck with the caption, "I'm a big time car girl!", I laugh my butt off.

Great work one exposing these people for who they are and their agenda.
