Had to get my 34 home on a wrecker this evening

So the wife and I are out for an afternoon drive in the 34. All of a sudden at 35 mph the Fastburn quits . Luckily I'm able to work my way over three lanes of traffic to a parking lot . Seems the Edelbrock mechanical fuel pump has given up. Had to call a roll back wrecker to come and get us. The driver was a round de round dirt racer and was quite interested in the car and took great care in loading it. He only charged us $76 which I thought was very reasonable, so we gave him a nice tip. So guess what I will be doing tomorrow? I have a rebuild kit for the pump which I purchased with the pump, but I didn't expect I would be using it this quick at only 1500 miles

Sorry to hear that Vince,, But it does look like you made out OK.. I had one do me that on the way to a car show with my 57 Chevy.. Made it to the show Ok.. But I spent most of the day at the show fixing it... Looked like a day at the race's in the pit area... Man I think everyone wanted to see me work.. By the time I was done,, I was ready to head for the house.. But anyway glade to see you made it home OK.. And for a good price.. Over here, That would have cost around $200. or $300. dollars..

Bummer. But glad the failure didn't result in anything more serious.

Sorry to here that but glad everyone is OK. An Edelbrock mechanical pump should last a hell of a lot longer than 1500 miles. Perhaps a call to them might be in order.

That is my first plan of action.

More like a call to summit for a better pump is in order and it wouldn't be a holley.

Turns out it was just a fuel filter. I have a Russell fuel filter at the carb that has a very fine screen and I guess it had enough junk on it to restrict fuel flow. That was the first thing I checked the next morning, glad I did. I'm gonna start carrying some paint filters in the trunk to use every time I refuel to try and eliminate some of this junk.

Vince, glad to here it was something simple. I remember that I had the same problem once on a '69 Nova. Had the in line 6 and ran like a scalded ***** ape but every once in a while it would just die. Wait a few minutes and it would run great again. Finally traced it down to the internal fuel filter in the carb inlet (Rochester 2G I think). Once I eliminated that and installed an external in line filter the problem was solved.

Thanks, the Russell filter has a very fine mesh, probably too fine, but it does prevent a lot of junk going into the carb. If it comes down to cleaning it out every so often I can deal with that rather than carb problems.
